Our Assessment:

This is a "Bill Credit" plan, it includes a 14.5¢ per kWh energy charge, which is offset by a $90.00 bill credit if you use at least 1000kWh of energy per month. If you do not qualify for the bill credit, your bill could be larger than expected.

For a more predictable bill, you should choose a "Fixed Rate" plan.

Plan Renewal:

If you order this plan and start it today, you will be up for renewal 36 months from now in February of 2029.

Since this plan expires in February, you can take advantage of seasonally lower rates when you renew.

Electricity rates are generally highest from June through September.

Our Take on Octopus Energy

Our Rating:

How We Rate

We aggregate data from multiple sources, including our customer reviews, rates, Public Utility Commission statistics, JD Power ratings, Better Business Bureau, and surveys.

Octopus Energy is just getting started in the US, but they're already a big deal in most of Europe, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Their value prop is a cheaper, more sustainable energy system faster and cheaper through technology. They offer great mobile applications, push electric vehicles and renewable technologies, solar batteries and heat pumps, and they're creating software platforms used by other energy providers. In other words, they talk the talk, but they're also walking the walk. And they're doing it in 18 countries across 4 continents.

Short answer, Yes. They've got competitive, transparent plans that mean no bill surprises for customers, and all of their plans are 100% green energy. They were one of the fastest growing companies in Europe for a reason, and they seem to be bringing that strategy to the US.

Octopus has a good reputation, and they're operating in Texas like the tortoise, as opposed to the hare. They're just slowly building their business and customer base, and doing their best to retain them through good customer service and technology.

For a provider that's been operating in Texas for quite a few years, Octopus has kept a low profile. Their google reviews are positive, but they've had some customer complaints with the PUC.
